THE PORTRAIT : CONTEST & prize

Journal Entry: Wed Nov 18, 2009, 5:34 PM
:spotlight-left::spotlight-left::spotlight-left: Good evening deviants from all over the world... Here you can read more about this contest , I'm really hoping many of you will be interested ! :spotlight-left::spotlight-left::spotlight-left:

Books are/were a big love of mine, and these days I was reading again "Larger than life" (1960) by Dino Buzzati (read about him here [link]). This amazing book is really fascinating, I dare to say that no one who will read it would regret doing this. This is the kind of book that adds a little brick into that castlel that is your affective intelligence & personality. But enough poetry, you will just have to read it, I will not say more about this, you will just have to trust me. Also...I couldn't find any resume in english so I cannot give you any link now. It is a sf short-story about a science-man attempt to re-create a dead women he loved, as a giant system of electric wires hidden by a white town, made from strange white buildings, stretching out in a wonderful mountain landscape...

The contest challenge all of you in the big :devart: world to create an image visually "describing" this book. An artwork inspired by this book. I would love to see it through YOUR eyes - this is the main reason of this "contest".
The images can be created in any medium: traditional works, digital works, photo/photomanipulation etc. and to have a decent resolution. Other common rules: avoid pornographic materials, religious symbols and other things not related to the book "imagery".

I am not a rich person so the "prizes" will not involve large amounts of money or subscriptions/software/things like that. To be honest, even if I would have a lot of money, I would not offer them as a prize, because I don't want people to get into this contest ( just) for the prizes :( . I want passion into these works, starting from a fascinating story, describing one eternal theme- a secret wish of humans , no matter they live today or thousand years ago. I want this to be a wonderful creating experience for you, as seeing all your works would be, for me....

Now I would like to mention though what the 2 prizes will be. One will be my personal favourite and the other will be chosen by the "jury", if this will exist, I still have to talk to some artists- if the contest will take place .

The book is called "Il grande ritratto" which really means "The big portrait" , I have no idea why is called "Larger than life" in english. :hmm: SO: I am offering the winners a portrait , of course they would have to send me a photo so that I can use it as a reference. They will be much more than 2 portraits, they would be really 2 compositions, so each of the 2 portraits will be surrounded by a special world, depending on WHO they will be, because I want that portrait to be inspired by that artist's artworks and the feeling I get from that gallery. (And please remember that it takes forever before I finish a drawing ) I am really hoping you can understand my english ..uhhh.
Beside the portrait, each winner will get a color photoprint (20/30cm) with one of my works ( the winners will chose which one) and few other things, just watch this Journal, it will be updated.Of course all works on the contest will be featured in this Journal.

Well maybe no one will be interested so the contest will not exist at all  For now it's all just an idea.
All of you who wish to join/participate please leave here a comment/send a Note. Also I am waiting for any other suggestions. AND: if other deviants would like to add something extra for the prizes I would like to invite them to be in the jury.

Hoping some of you would be interested in this...I am wishing you all a wonderful night and BE CREATIVE .

P.S. As I said, in english the book is called "Larger than life" (by Dino Buzzati) . For other languages please use Google or ask me. You can surely find it at your local libraries and read it for free :) And it is a short-story, so anyone can read it without dedicating much time to it .

UPDATES:
:star:THE DEADLINE FOR THIS CONTEST IS 14 JANUARY 2010.
:star:PLEASE SEND ME A LINK/THUMBNAIL OF YOUR WORKS AFTER YOU UPLOAD IT ON :devart: , IN A NOTE OR A COMMENT HERE ON THIS JOURNAL. ALL THE DEVIATIONS WILL BE FEATURED IN THIS JOURNAL.
:star:PRIZES: 1. MY FAVOURITE AND 2.THE JURY's CHOICE.
EACH PRIZE CONSIST OF:*
*one portrait of the winner, made 100% by my hand and my pencils, in a composition that will describe how I see that artist's gallery/ART.
*one color photoprint 20cm/30cm, best quality- of a deviation chosen by the winner from my gallery.
*other things I will write soon here!

It sounds great! Although I am thinking to change it into an art trade... but I haven't decided yet.

I really hope everything will be alright again for you and your family :aww: ...and I think it's only human and normal to help if I can.

Regarding the digital collaborations I must say I never try something like that, it sounds very interesting, but I never ever "draw" anything digitally. So I believe it's impossible, I would have to learn all from 0. ))

I think is called "O grande retrato" (1960). Just ask for this book written by Dino Buzzati at your local libraries, they will know what to give you, at least this is what I hope :aww:
